Before Your Surgery:

Being well-informed is crucial for a successful surgical experience. Keep the following considerations in mind, but always consult your physician, surgeon, or nurse for specific instructions.

Preparation:
- Complete necessary pre-admission lab work and paperwork.
- Bring identification, such as a driver’s license and insurance card(s).
- Follow your doctor’s instructions on dietary restrictions, including medications.
- Bring any prescribed medications with you on the day of surgery.
- Prepare comfortable, loose-fitting clothes for after the surgery. Remove glasses and dentures before the procedure.
- Leave valuables, jewelry, makeup, and hair accessories at home.
Overnight Stay Preparation:
- If your procedure requires an overnight stay, pack a bag with personal items, clothes, and hygiene products.
- Have another adult accompany you to the hospital, available during the procedure and to take you home upon discharge.
- In case of illness or new health problems, contact your physician or surgeon promptly.

On the Day of Your Surgery:

Upon arrival:

Check in at the registration desk.
If pre-registered, proceed to the pre-operative area; if not, register and then move to the pre-operative area.
Undergo evaluation by a nurse, receive an ID bracelet, and change into a gown.
Move to pre-operative holding. Friends and family will wait in the designated area.
Meet the anesthesiologist and physician/surgeon, have an IV started, and proceed to the operating room.

After Your Surgery:

Depending on sedation:

If no sedation was required, dress and leave.
If sedated, go to the post-anesthesia care unit for monitoring as you wake up.
Move to post-operative holding once awake, where family and friends can join.
For overnight stays, transition to a room.
Upon discharge, receive instructions on wound care, diet, medication use, and other relevant information.
Ensure someone is available to take you home, as sedated patients are not permitted to drive.
